Gemini Space Station
Gemini Space Station. This concept was a proposed military application of the Gemini spacecraft designed to ferry astronauts to the Manned Orbital Laboratory and other orbital development systems. Engineered with a modified heat shield and access hatch, these stations were intended to support long-duration missions and experimental research in Earth orbit. Although the program was ultimately canceled in 1969, its development pioneered essential technologies for modular space station resupply and crew transport.
